Do you feel like everyone around you is confident and self-assured? We’re going to let you in on a little secret… they’re NOT! And, you're not the only one who feels that way.
However, you can learn to recognize what triggers your self-doubt and reframe your outlook so that you can accomplish anything you set your mind to.
Step 1: Identifying Negative Self-Talk
If any of these statements resonate with you:
“It’s too good to be true!”
“I don’t have enough time!”
“I can’t do anything right!”
“This is too hard!”
“Nobody likes me!”
“I have no choice!”
You may be engaging in limiting self-talk.
Step 2: Flip the Script
When you find yourself engaging in victim mentality, try spinning the story to put yourself at the head of your table.
From this: “I’ll never get the promotion I deserve.”
To this: “I CHOOSE to continue to work hard and take pride in my work and I trust it will be recognized.”
And, find an accountability partner, someone you trust, to call you out when you are engaging in toxic self-talk.
Step 3: Track your Triggers
What sparks your reaction to engage in negative self-talk and what is the underlying feeling that provokes the downward spiral? Maybe it’s anger, fear, or a feeling of helplessness? Whatever it may be, you can learn to recognize the trigger cycle and intentionally choose how to engage or respond.
